Walmart stores nationwide are proud to hire great people who are excited about working together as a team to serve their customers. That’s just what Tom Christoffel was looking for in a job when he applied and was hired for a maintenance position at the Walmart store in Andover a year ago.

Customers and co-workers alike respond to his winning smile as well as his friendly, humorous personality. “I am a very hard worker and I really like being on a team and helping others,” said Tom with pride. “Working at Walmart is fun, too.”

Tom works 20 hours a week with varying hours and days. He takes out garbage, cleans the bathrooms, and responds to cleaning requests throughout the expansive store.

“My goal is to be very independent and do things on my own,” Tom, noted. Currently Jenny Onnen, a customized job developer from Rise’s Community Integration Program (CIP) in Coon Rapids, meets with Tom two hours a week.

Tom’s ultimate career goal is to work repairing bicycles so his Walmart store manager is considering having Tom sit in with a bike assembler/builder to see how he does and take it from there.

In his free time, Tom enjoys a wide range of sporting activities and is active in Special Olympics with bowling, basketball (he plays center), and golf. He and his dad enjoy golfing at Hidden Haven Golf Club in Cedar; Tom claims to have not only a solid drive, but a good putting game.
