2008-2009 Program Year AmeriCorps is a National Service program for adults of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. It is sometimes referred to as the "domestic Peace Corps." AmeriCorps members help solve community problems related to education, public safety, the environment, human needs, and homeland security by serving at non-profit and faith-based organizations throughout the country. For more information on the AmeriCorps program, go to www.americorps.org. Work in Progress AmeriCorps members commit to one year of service, September 2, 2008- August 31, 2009, within one of four non-profits throughout the Twin Cities Metro area. Members provide employment support to adults with disabilities or within welfare to work programs and by doing recreational activities in the community with marginalized individuals who would otherwise face social isolation.
